Photofacials use a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The light is absorbed by various structures in the skin responsible for unwanted blemishes, brown spots, acne spots, and redness. IPL helps restore a youthful looking skin intended for photo aged or sun damaged skin. It helps decrease facial redness, lessen the appearance of pigmented spots, help improve acne, reduce pore size and improve texture and fine lines.
IPL delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light that is non-ablative, meaning that is does not damage the surface of the skin. The intense light is directed to the deeper parts of the skin (dermis) and leaves the superficial aspect of the skin (epidermis) untouched.
More even tone and smoother skin are seen with just a few treatments. The procedure is quick, pain free, and causes no long-term damage to the skin. Individual results vary from patient to patient, but results can be seen in as few as two or three treatments. Most patients require about five treatments to see significant improvement. Exposure to the sun should be avoided several weeks before and after treatment.
Photo facials use a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The Photo Facial-Intense Pulsed light is a treatment breakthrough that can correct many skin conditions without down time, creating clearer, more vibrant and youthful skin through a process called Photo-Rejuvenation. One to five sessions are recommended. Most commonly treated areas include the face, neck and chest; however, other popular areas include the back of the hands, arms, legs and even the back.
The PhotoFacial device produces a bright beam of light which breaks up pigmented brown spots causing them to gently flake off in a few days. The device also gently coagulates and removes blood vessels below the skin surface, without bruising associated with other laser treatments. Photons stimulate new production of collagen from fibroblast cells for improvement in fine lines and skin tone. The 30 minute treatment requires a clear gel to be applied to the skin, followed by the pulsing of bright light through a chilled sapphire crystal which is applied to the face.
Most skin types except the very darkest skin are candidates. Patients with tans or recent sun exposure should wait until their tan fades before undergoing this treatment. Most patients note a dramatic removal of brown spots, redness broken capillaries and improvement in fine lines and wrinkles.
You can return to work the same day and resume most of your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk. Before treatment avoid photo synthesizing prescriptions, avid excessive sun exposure, avoid tanning for one month before your treatment.
The photo Facial device has a contact cooling crystal which is applied close to the skin’s surface to eliminate discomfort for most patients.
After treatment wash the area with mild soap and gently pat dry, then apply a soothing moisturizer to the skin. Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning for one week after your treatment. Consider the use of sunscreens with a 50 SPF. Patients who undergo the treatment to remove brown discoloration should consider the use of fading creams and sunscreen after the procedure.
